Texas A&M University Represented at High School College Career Nights

HOWDY ! -- Gary Drake is the local college recruiter for Texas A&M and The Corps of Cadets.  Gary enjoys meeting with the students and their parents.  The biggest issues that he encounters are that students do not understand that preparation for being college eligible begins upon entering high school, college entrance requirements, and how competitive the college acceptance requirements are.

Secretary of ArmyThe Corps of Cadets, an on-campus organization of 2,000 students, develops well-educated leaders of character prepared to provide values-based leadership and service in the public and private sectors.  The Corps is a four-year leadership development program based on a military framework of organization; however, membership in the Corps carries no military obligation.  Cadets serve proudly as “Keepers of the Spirit” and “Guardians of Tradition” at Texas A&M.

During October and November, Gary visits with several High School Counselors and attends various College Career Nights.  For 2008 - 2009, Gary will recruit in the Santa Ana School District, at Mater Dei High School, Tustin School District, and Irvine School District.

Texas A&M, located in College Station, Texas, is the 6th largest University in the US with an enrollment of 49,000 students (39,000 undergraduates and 10,000 post-graduates).  From humble beginnings in 1876 as Texas' first public institution of higher learning, to a bustling 5,000-acre campus and a nationally recognized faculty, Texas A&M University is one of a select few universities with land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant designations. With an enrollment of about half men and half women, 25 percent of the freshman class are the first in their family to attend college. Texas A&M has two branch campuses, one in Galveston, Texas, and one in the Middle Eastern country of Qatar.  A&M offers degrees in over 250 programs in 10 colleges, including Veterinary Medicine.
